Usually our parquet comes from buildings constructed from the 1900s onward, occasionally a little earlier, and therefore the quality of the wood can be exceptionally good. Sometimes the blocks can be timber types which are no longer commercially available and therefore very appealing and sustainable.
Parquet timber types have differing density (i.e. weight) and durability (meaning whether or not suitable for exteriors and external joinery use) as well as whether the timber takes glue and polish well, all of which will need to be considered before laying. The benefit of reclaimed parquet block is that you know that it has been successfully used first time round! It is also sustainable flooring because it is reclaimed, and even better, some wood types can be effectively used with energy efficient under-floor heating systems.
The blocks are graded by us to size and type, onto pallets (bear in mind that quite commonly the size can vary by a few millimetres and this is called differential wear to do with the ‘footfall traffic’ over particular parts of the floor area). The blocks may have marks, scratches or scuffs, which is to expected of reclaimed parquet flooring. All of these minor faults are sanded out at the end of the process of installation and you should expect that.
We only supply blocks which can either be used for the main part of the floor, or cut for edges and we always are generous with our metreage. The underside almost always has bitumen (or sometimes an adhesive) on them, however if you use a modern flooring adhesive which is recommended to bond with bitumen then it is not normally necessary to clean the underside off. We will be happy advise you as to what to expect from the particular parquet batch you may be interested in and we offer to send out samples. If you feel you would prefer a floor-fitter to do the job for you we can usually recommend someone.
The pallets are stored in the dry, under cover, but your parquet blocks will need to acclimatise in the environment that they are going to be fitted. For ease of delivery we use a pallet-line service which will deliver to your door and offload with a tail-lift and pallet-truck to your door or to your garage. However if there is a service you prefer, or you wish to collect, that is no problem and indeed we enjoy meeting our customers!
If you would like a sample, please request one via our contacts page. We send out our sample parquet blocks sanded and polished on the surface so you can see the potential of having a reclaimed parquet floor.
