BEECH Chequerboard Pattern

Beech Chequerboard Pattern

Beech is a European hardwood, with a very close grain, characterised by tiny flecks. Beige-white or cream coloured, it is a close straight-grained timber. It is often used for its strength and hardness and is consequently a good value flooring material. We find reclaimed parquet typically in commercial buildings, schools and warehousing. You can read more about this species here.

Before buying your parquet we recommend that you request a sample so you know what to expect.

This beech is a specially cut block. The beech chequerboard pattern is created by 3 widths into 1 length:

  • 6 3/4″ x  2 1/4″ x  3/4″
  • 174 x 56 x 20 mm

Please note: In the description we use Imperial dimensions because that is how the blocks were originally milled.

Metric dimensions are rarely an exact match.

Where from?

This Beech block has come from a school in Stoke.

For sale in multiples of 1 sq m above the minimum purchase of 5 sq m – if you need a smaller quantity please contact the office directly.

Smaller amounts for repairs or infills:

If you just want to do an infill area, we will try to match the size and species for you before you buy so that you are sure of the wood type.

In order to use this service, we will ask for good photos in focus to be emailed with all three dimensions of the parquet block (L-W-D) and your full contact details please. In addition, you may need to send us an original block that we are matching. Please be ready to do this as it helps a lot with identification and we prefer to use our expertise than you guessing!

This is a tongue and grooved block, in good reclaimed condition.

Before buying your parquet we recommend you request a sample  so you know what to expect.

There is a sticky layer of bitumen on the bases. The professional adhesives available these days will fuse with the bitumen and stick successfully without the necessity of removal. You can buy our recommended adhesive SikaBond 5500s on our website.

The blocks will require some preparation, prior to laying, particularly along the edges. This will give a tight fit and therefore a better finish.  The floor will need several good sanding passes after the completion of the block laying.

Photos of Beech parquet:

The photos show typical beech parquet sanded and polished – this is the finished material, not the condition of the blocks to be sent out. The feature photo is a standard size reclaimed parquet supplied by us to a customer and fitted by a recommended fitter. It is not the supply currently available however.
