MAKORE – Reclaimed Parquet

£36.00

Makore is a beautiful wood, similar to Sapele Mahogany. It has similar colour and texture but is more consistent in colour. The colours in Makore are red-brown often with quite a subtle grain, lacking the obvious stripes of Sapele. We find it in later dated buildings, in general from the sixties onwards. Before buying your parquet we recommend that you request a sample so you know what to expect.

  • 9″ long  2 3/4″ wide  x  11/16″ thick

Metric dimensions are rarely an exact match.

Quantity

For sale in multiples of 1 sq m above the minimum purchase of 5 sq m – if you need a smaller quantity please contact the office directly.

Smaller amounts for repairs or infills:

If you just want to do an infill area, we will try to match the size and species for you before you buy so that you are sure of the wood type.

In order to use this service, we will ask for good photos in focus to be emailed with all three dimensions of the parquet block (L-W-D) and your full contact details please. In addition, you may need to send us an original block that we are matching. Please be ready to do this as it helps a lot with identification and we prefer to use our expertise than you guessing!

Condition

This is a tongue and grooved block, in good reclaimed condition.

Before buying your parquet we recommend you request a sample  so you know what to expect.

There is a sticky layer of bitumen on the bases. The professional adhesives available these days will fuse with the bitumen and stick successfully without the necessity of removal. You can buy our recommended adhesive SikaBond 5500s on our website.

The blocks will require some preparation, prior to laying, particularly along the edges. This will give a tight fit and therefore a better finish.  The floor will need several good sanding passes after the completion of the block laying.

Photos of Makore parquet:

The photos show typical Makore parquet sanded and polished – this is the finished material, not the condition of the blocks to be sent out. The feature photo is a standard size reclaimed parquet supplied by us to a customer and fitted by a recommended fitter. However please note that it will not be the supply currently available.
